October 14, 2008

Also known as the Garden Isle, Kauai is situated in the northernmost island in the Hawaiin chain. Entwined with sharp mountain spires, lush valleys and jagged cliffs, all draped in a canopy of emerald, Kauai provides beautiful natural scenery for visitors to explore. The island is well-known for the sandy beaches that line its shores.

Travelers will enjoy the swimming and sunbathing opportunities at Lumahai Beach which was also the setting for the film South Pacific. The resort area of Po’ipu Beach is also quite popular. If you love snorkeling, then Kee Beach is the place to be which is noted for its exceptional snorkeling, while inviting lava rock pools can be enjoyed in Lydgate State Park. Visit the Kau’ai Museum in Lihu’e, the island’s main town, which displays the art and artifacts of Native Hawaiians to know about the local history. Further up the coast lies Poliahu Heiau is worth visiting which is the remains of an ancient sacred site that was used for ceremonial purposes.

Kauai appeals to a wide audience because of its dramatic beauty, abundance of activities, and laid back atmosphere. Hiking is popular in Kauai—adventurous hikers can challenge the cliffs of the Na Pali Coast on the Kalalau Trail near the resort area of Princeville.

Whether hiking the Napali Coast, sunbathing in Poipu, or exploring the expansive Waimea Canyon, the views are amazing. The timeless beauty and allure of Kauai is what makes it such a treasured destination.
